As of August 2, 2026, the California Department of Social Services licensing record lists 196 residential care facilities for the elderly with an active license in Fresno (Fresno County). Each appears in the full alphabetical list above with its licensed capacity, license status, state-recorded care clearances, and a link to its complete state record on this site.

Is “board and care” different from “assisted living” in Fresno?

The label follows licensed capacity, not a different license. Of Fresno's 196 licensed homes, 171 are small board-and-care homes licensed for 6 or fewer residents, 3 are mid-size homes licensed for 7–15, and 22 are larger assisted-living communities licensed for 16 or more (CDSS license-capacity records, refreshed August 2, 2026). All hold the same state RCFE license.

Does Medi-Cal help pay for assisted living in Fresno?

Yes — at participating homes, through Medi-Cal's Assisted Living Waiver (ALW), which pays for care services, not room and board. 45 of Fresno's 196 licensed homes appear on the DHCS ALW participant list, checked August 2, 2026; Fresno County has 65 participating homes in all.
