As of August 2, 2026, the California Department of Social Services licensing record lists 212 residential care facilities for the elderly with an active license in Sacramento (Sacramento County). Each appears in the full alphabetical list above with its licensed capacity, license status, state-recorded care clearances, and a link to its complete state record on this site.

Is “board and care” different from “assisted living” in Sacramento?

The label follows licensed capacity, not a different license. Of Sacramento's 212 licensed homes, 176 are small board-and-care homes licensed for 6 or fewer residents, 10 are mid-size homes licensed for 7–15, and 26 are larger assisted-living communities licensed for 16 or more (CDSS license-capacity records, refreshed August 2, 2026). All hold the same state RCFE license.
