• Move-in costs

  A one-time community fee or deposit is common. Ask what it covers and whether any of it comes back if the stay is short.

• Increases

  California requires at least 90 days’ written notice, with reasons, before a rate rises (Health & Safety Code §1569.655). A change in the resident’s care level is the section’s own exception and can be billed sooner.
